Advocates for the Akron Visual and Performing Arts (AAVPA) supports and promotes the highest standards for arts education and provides the greater Akron community with opportunities to experience and enjoy the visual and performing arts.
Advocates for the Akron Visual and Performing Arts (AAVPA) was founded in 2007 and has provided funds for numerous arts activities such as guest artists, student travel, and master classes. AAVPA has awarded over $10,000.00 in scholarships to students who continue an arts education in college. AAVPA is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization created to provide financial support to all arts at Firestone High School, the high school campus for visual and performing arts in the Akron Public Schools.
Students from all over the city and throughout the area come to Firestone High School to undertake a rigorous course of study in choral music, dance, instrumental music, theatre, or visual art. Firestone High School is well-known for its nationally-recognized Visual and Performing Arts program featuring disciplined courses of study in choral music, dance, instrumental music, theatre, and visual art. Firestone students earn a special endorsement on their diploma and also have ample opportunities to participate in music concerts, dance events, theatrical productions and art exhibitions.
Firestone High School offers a fantastic array of outstanding academic programs. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program features a rigorous, college-level curriculum for the highly-motivated student. Numerous Advanced Placement courses are available, resulting in many possibilities for an excellent college-level education. Firestone High School also offers several Career and Technical education programs, including Administrative Office Technology, Business Finance, Information Technology, Marketing Education (DECA) and Project Lead the Way.
